Bruce Kuryla & Crew again at the U.S. Offshore Championship

Two ECSA Teams Competed at the U.S. Offshore Championship in Annapolis.

Two ECSA Teams competed at the U.S. Offshore Championship in Annapolis last weekend. Three days of racing in Navy 44s determined the U.S. Sailing National Championship.

Bruce Kuryla, who owns Secret, a Nelson Marek 42 from Milford, CT, defended his 2009 title. Kuryla’s crew included crewmates Blake Marriner, Bruce S. Kuryla, Bill Tyler, Thomas Nolan, Thomas Jankun, Robert Welsh and Rod Swift. Tied for the lead on the final day but behind in the final distance race, they soaked low and with the help of the changing tide squeaked out the win by a boat length. “Today reminded me of a day in July in Long Island Sound,” said Kuryla. “Our guys are tough and would not give up. It was real special to race with my dad too.”

David Nauber and crew of the Frers 33 Wolverine (Duck Island Yacht Club) won the ECSA Lloyd Phoenix scoring and was selected to represent ECSA in the 2011 Championship. Nauber and crew tied with Ohio’s Lakeside Yacht Club Team; Nauber’s team in Annapolis included local sailors Rob Goodwin, Bruce Lawrence, Matthew Konrad, Lynne Maccubbin, Donald Melillo, Julie Von Kanel, and Tom Carse.
